Special House session on 'secret' meeting at SIS headquarters suspended

The special parliamentary session held behind closed doors at which MPs on Wednesday were discussing a 'secret' meeting involving senior state officials at the headquarters of the Slovak Intelligence Service (SIS) on May 17 has been suspended, as MPs approved a motion proposing that ex-SIS head Vladimir Pčolinský, currently in custody, should be present at the session.

The session was initiated by the opposition Smer-SD party, which claims that political representatives discussed active cases at the meeting. The meeting was allegedly attended by roughly a dozen people, including the most senior state officials. Reportedly, the topic concerned suspicions that investigations into some major corruption cases could be manipulated. Some media reported that the case of SIS ex-head Vladimir Pčolinský was among those mentioned in this context.

PM Eduard Heger denied in the meantime that the meeting concerned the ex-SIS head or other active cases, claiming that it took place on his own initiative and was meant to allow the state representatives to acquaint themselves with certain intelligence reports.
