On Thursday, activists submitted a petition to save the Demänovská Valley to the National Council of the Slovak Republic. It was signed by 113,000 people. They are calling for a quick solution to the amendments to the three laws and the adoption of 36 proposed changes and measures to make nature protection in protected areas more effective.
"Our requirements in the call are to prevent similar failures in spatial planning and approvals of construction in the territory of national parks, which occurred in recent years in the Demänovská valley in the territory of the Low Tatras National Park," activists say.
The Minister of the Environment Ján Budaj (OĽANO) hopes that the petition to save the Demänovská Valley will encourage legislators to listen to similar stories and take them into account when addressing systemic errors in environmental protection.
