Defence Ministry spokesperson Martina Koval Kakascikova reported on Wednesday that the current number of applicants to join the Armed Forces is at its highest in the past decade, with the ministry registering a total of 2,613 applications to enlist at the rank of private in the first five months of 2021.
According to Defence Minister Jaroslav Nad (OLaNO), this trend isn't a result of costly recruitment campaigns, but is based on people's real-life experience with those in the profession, since "soldiers have been a pillar of crisis management in the country for several months".
Meanwhile, the M.R. Stefanik Armed Forces Academy has also registered an increased interest, processing a total of 845 study applications.
