Former Police Chief Tibor Gašpar will remain in custody, a pre-trial judge of the Specialised Criminal Court (STS) in Banská Bystrica decided on Monday, thus rejecting his request for release from custody, in which he has been held in since last November. The court decided to extend the custody of the accused by one month until August 5th. The former Police Chief faces charges of forming, orchestrating and supporting a criminal group, misusing the powers of a public official, and bribery.
The court also retained the custody of former National Criminal Agency (NAKA) anti-corruption unit head Robert Krajmer. He faces charges of forming a criminal group, misusing the powers of a public official, and bribery. Both senior police officials were detained along with other individuals in November 2020 during a police operation called Purgatory. They are being held in custody so that they can't influence witnesses or continue criminal activities.
