Increasing the value-added tax (VAT) to 25 percent could increase the prices of goods and services by more than 2.5 percent, FinGo.sk analyst Lenka Buchláková estimated for TASR on Monday, adding that low-income groups, who already have a problem repaying their basic financial obligations, would suffer the most. At the weekend Finance Minister Igor Matovič (OLaNO) mentioned increasing VAT as part of his planned tax-levy reform aiming to support families with children. On Tuesday he denied that the hike would be 25 percent, accusing one of his coalition partners of spreading misinformation.
