President receives new Swiss ambassador

President Ivan Gašparovič recieved Swiss Ambassador to Slovakia Alexander Wittwer on Tuesday announced the Presidential Office. The discussion was dominated by issues of co-operation in economy and research and development.

Gašparovič recalled that he was the first Slovak president ever to pay an official visit to Switzerland. According to him, Slovak-Swiss relations have intensified in recent years, including contacts between business entities. “Even though trade turnover stood at €1.5 billion in the past year, we're far from making full use of the economic potential,” he said. Wittwer pointed out that Slovakia and Switzerland enjoy cordial and friendly relations. He added that Switzerland has closely monitored Slovak accomplishments within the EU over the past decade and promised to continue its aid in the spheres of innovation and new technologies.
