Drivers should pay closer attention when passing through rural road sections at this time of the year to avoid collisions with large animals, such as deer, wild boar and even bears, says Muranska Planina National Park zoologist Jergus Tesak.
Tesak explained that it is a particular characteristic for this season for the roads to swarm with game, with adult animals teaching their offspring how to move around the area. “On their wanderings, the animals often cross roads. Inexperienced young animals simply don't know how to react when faced with an approaching vehicle,” warned Tesak. The zoologist was referring in particular to a road accident that occurred on Monday, when a female bear cub was found seriously injured on the road between the towns of Muran and Tisovec (Banska Bystrica region). The bear was seen crossing the road with her mother and other two cubs, but unlike the rest of the group it didn't manage to avoid a passing car.
