Nearly 14,000 secondary school students from some 60 schools in Slovakia will take part in a mock election for the European Parliament organised by the Public Affairs Institute (IVO) on Wednesday.
According to the manager of the project Miroslav Kollár, “the election will be carried out in a similar way to the real one. Members of electoral committees will have lists with voters at their disposal. The polling stations will be equipped with a ballot box. It will be made sure that the election is voluntary and secret”. The goal of the project is to acquaint secondary school students in Slovakia with the fundamental democratic principles of society and boost their awareness of the way in which electoral systems in Slovakia work. The upcoming mock election to the European Parliament will be followed by another mock vote for the municipalities in the autumn.
