Shortage of components impacts Volkswagen plant

Production of SUV models will be suspended at the Volkswagen Slovakia plant in Bratislava due to missing components from Thursday, April 29th, to Friday, May 7th, according to company spokeswoman Lucia Kovarovic Makayová. The production of small city vehicles is not affected and continues according to production plans. According to Makayová, in recent months the company has worked to minimize the impact of the global shortage of semiconductors on production. "Currently, however, we must assume that the situation with the supply of chips will remain tense in the coming months. It has escalated again in recent weeks, also for example in connection with snowstorms in Texas, USA, as a result of which large chip manufacturers there had to stop or reduce production," she added.
