In 2020, the number of divorce proposals filed in Slovakia dropped by 10%, shows an analysis by the Justice Ministry. Their number thus fell by 1,227. Analysts stressed that they expected to see an increase in the number due to the state of emergency, restrictions on freedom of movement, ordered work from home. The drop between the previous two years (2018 and 2019) was significantly smaller - at the level of 197, which represented only 1.67%. Slovakia has been recording a decreasing number of divorces regularly since 2010. The long-term declining trend in filings does not necessarily mean a stabilization of the institution of marriage. "There may be a change in social relationships and family stereotypes, ie different ways of partners living together," stressed the analysts.
