Slovakia has joined the newly founded International Accountability Platform for Belarus, whose task is to collect and record evidence about serious human rights violations that have been committed in Belarus since the country's presidential election in August 2020. According to the Foreign Affairs Ministry, the platform's objective is to collect information and evidence that can be used in investigations and court proceedings initiated against violators of human rights in the country. "The situation in Belarus is grave, and there are no signs of improvement," stated outgoing Foreign Affairs Minister Miroslav Korčok (an SaS nominee), pointing in particular to violations of human rights, inhuman treatment and arbitrary arrests for political opinions. The International Accountability Platform for Belarus was created based on recommendations included in the Moscow Mechanism report by OSCE Rapporteur Professor Wolfgang Benedek.
