“No new dividing lines should be drawn in the European Union - neither between North and South nor between East and West”, European People’s Party candidate for the post of EU Commission president, Jean-Claude Juncker, said at a press conference in Bratislava on Tuesday.
“I don't accept dividing member countries into old and new ones,” he continued. Juncker pointed out that the upcoming European Parliament elections will for the first time take place according to the rules of the Lisbon Treaty. According to him, the public in the EP elections will decide which employment policy will be adopted by the EU. Another priority consists in creating a European energy union, the third on concluding a treaty with the U.S.A., the fourth in building monetary and economic union, while the fifth priority concerns the ‘British issue’. Juncker also noted that he’s been to Slovakia several times, this time he was invited by the former PM Mikuláš Dzurinda.
