Acting Health Minister: Situation with COVID-19 in Slovakia improving

The situation surrounding the coronavirus pandemic in Slovakia has recently been steadily improving, with the numbers of new daily infections, deaths and hospital admissions decreasing, acting Health Minister Eduard Heger (OLaNO) reported on Tuesday.

On the other hand, the number of people on lung ventilation has increased. Heger believes that the overall improvement in Slovakia has been down to the public observing the current measures, and stressed that it's necessary to maintain the state of emergency which has been in force continuously for six months.

Recent tests have revealed that the British coronavirus variant has a 97-percent share of SARS-CoV-2 infections in Slovakia. COVID-19 has claimed 81 lives each day on average in the past seven days, with the number of COVID patients in hospitals going down from 3,834 to 3,620. The reproduction number is now between 0.85 and 0.9.
