As of last Friday more than 74 percent of Slovakia's population had already taken part in the national census, which represents approximately 4.17 million people, according to census official Jasmina Stauder. The largest number of people, 80 percent of its population, has been counted in the Zilina region, while at the opposite end of the ranking is the Kosice region, where about 66.5 percent has been counted. The census, which began on February 15th and will continue until March 31st, is fully electronic.
All residents in Slovakia are obliged to take part in the census according to law. This concerns everyone who resides in the country on a permanent, temporary or tolerated basis, including foreigners. As for children and minors, they must be registered by their parents. A fine of €250 can be imposed on anyone who doesn't comply.
