The Climate Needs You initiative stated on Tuesday that it hopes enough MPs will be able to rise above their own egos and start dealing with the future of mankind on Earth. This after the ongoing parliamentary session, which was supposed to include talks on the demands of a green petition submitted by the initiative, was adjourned earlier in the day until March 30th. Speaker of Parliament Boris Kollar (We Are Family) argued that the submitters of bills to be discussed were absent, and that this is why he had to adjourn the session.
The petition, named 'For the Climate, for the Future', was launched in late September. The authors of the document are asking MPs to announce a climate emergency in order for Slovakia to achieve carbon neutrality by 2040. At the same time, the petition demands that Parliament should adopt a binding strategy in 2021 on how to achieve this neutrality. Another demand is that the Government should support a tightening of the EU's climate goals. It has been signed by more than 127,000 people. Parliament started dealing with the petition on March 19, with several MPs still waiting to take the floor regarding the document. The Parliament was initially supposed to adopt a resolution on the petition on Tuesday.
