The Government on Wednesday decided to extend the state of emergency in Slovakia in reaction to the effects of the pandemic in the country. The interim state of emergency should have ended on March 19. While the extension was approved by consensus within the government, it still has to be approved by Parliament no more than 20 days after the extension comes into effect. Several MPs have already expressed their opposition to the constant use of the state of emergency as a tool for the faster acquisition of material and deployment of health-care personnel. In the new state of emergency, it will not be possible to travel abroad for recreation. At the same time, an exemption will be granted for students of medical universities so that they can complete the necessary internships and complete their studies. The use of respirators shall also be regulated.
