Government approves proposal to dismiss SIS head Vladimír Pčolinský

The definitive end of Vladimir Pčolinský as head of the Slovak Intelligence Service (SIS) remains only at the discretion of President Zuzana Čaputová, as the Government at its meeting on Wednesday agreed to a motion to remove Pčolinský from office.

The Cabinet complied with a request from the head of the SIS, who informed Prime Minister Igor Matovic (OLaNO) in writing on March 13 of his intention to resign, asking the Government to propose his dismissal. Following approval by the Cabinet, the premier will submit the proposal to the president.

Vladimir Pčolinský was detained last week on suspicion of receiving a bribe from business tycoon Zoroslav Kollár in exchange for ensuring that the SIS wouldn't eavesdrop on him. The Specialised Criminal Court on Sunday (March 14) decided that Pčolinský would be remanded in custody. His lawyer Eva Mišíková announced that Pčolinský resigned from the SIS director post on Sunday.
