Illegal migration declined by 40.9 percent year-on-year in 2020, while the number of illegal stays in Slovakia dropped by 41.3 percent, according to Slovak Police, which add that this can be partly attributed to the coronavirus epidemic. This factor has continued to influence the situation in 2021.
