Slovak online banking usage doubles

Slovaks appear to be trusting online banking services more than they have in the past, with the number of online banking users almost doubling over the past five years, writes Poštová Banka, citing its latest survey.

According to the results of this survey, while only some 20 percent of people in Slovakia carried out financial transactions online in 2008, the figure rose to approximately 40 percent at present. “Online banking is now viewed as an absolutely standard thing. It not only saves time, but also saves money in some cases. Moreover, it makes the communication between clients and banks easier”, said Poštová Banka spokesperson Lenka Lendacká. With respect to a European comparison, Slovakia is still slightly lagging behind the EU average (43 percent) when it comes to the use of internet banking. Online banking services seem to be popular mainly in Scandinavia and the Netherlands, where the average number of users exceeds 80 percent. On the opposite pole of the scale is Romania, where only 4 out of 100 people appear to be managing their financial matters via the internet.
