A life sentence could be imposed on a 41-year-old resident of Kezmarok, north eastern Slovakia, in connection with Wednesday's (February 17) hostage drama that was preceded by a double murder. As the Police informed, the man is deemed to have murdered his parents in their apartment and then moved on to a nearby retail store. There he took a 40-year-old woman hostage, threatened her with a knife and barricaded himself along with her in a warehouse, demanding that his requirements be met. The hostage drama lasted for several hours. Police officers of the emergency unit of the Regional Directorate of the Police Corps in Presov, the District Directorate of the Police Corps in Kezmarok and other forces of the Regional Directorate of the Police Corps in Presov, including negotiators, took part in the operation as well as members of the Lynx Commando anti-terrorist unit were called in, as this was such a serious situation. After several hours police officers managed to get the woman to a safe place and detain the culprit. The case is being investigated by the Presov police crime unit.
