The contraction in the Slovak economy didn't worsen significantly in the final quarter of last year, with GDP falling by 2.7 percent year-on-year, which was 0.2 percent more than in the third quarter, according to a preliminary estimate released by the Slovak Statistics Office on Tuesday. "The second wave of the coronavirus pandemic, with its greater negative health impact on the population, wasn't reflected in a significant contraction in the Slovak economy. Meanwhile, several sectors, such as the automotive and construction industries, positively surprised us with their performance," stated the Statistics Office.
