Newly elected Special Prosecutor Daniel Lipšictook his oath on Monday before Parliamentary Chair Boris Kollár (We Are Family), meaning that his seven-year term as head of the Special Prosecutor's Office has now begun. The same person cannot be elected special prosecutor repeatedly.
Former interior and Justice Minister Daniel Lipšicwas elected as the new special prosecutor in Parliament on February 5 after a change in law allowed him to become special prosecutor, as non-prosecutors could not have run for the post before. Lipšic, a 47-year-old barrister, was running against three prosecutors of the Special Prosecutor's Office - Peter Kysel, Ján Šanta and Vasil Špirko. Parliament had to elect a new special prosecutor following the resignation of Dušan Kováčik after he was arrested on accusations of corruption in autumn 2020.
