A Moscow court's verdict in the case of Russian opposition leader Alexey Navalny raises doubts about a fair trial and ignores the previous verdict of the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR), Slovak Foreign Affairs Minister Ivan Korčok has posted on a social network in reaction to the verdict issued by a court in Moscow on Tuesday (February 2).
Navalny was sentenced to more than three years in prison for violating the conditions of his parole. "We're calling on Russian authorities to observe human rights and political freedoms in Russia, as well as their international commitments," wrote Korčok, thereby joining representatives of the EU and several Western countries, including the USA, Great Britain, France and Germany, who have condemned Navalny's imprisonment and called for his release.
