Former Deputy Justice Minister Monika Jankovská's medication overdose in custody is officially being treated as a suicide attempt for preventative reasons, Justice Minister Maria Koliková (For the People) stated on Monday. "Based on Jankovská's statements, however, it seems that she had no intention to commit suicide. She consumed a larger amount of medication than that prescribed by the doctor, but it appears that her true intent was to sleep better," said Koliková, adding that she's set up a commission to look into the procedures of the Prison and Judicial Guards Corps (ZVJS). Jankovská is currently in the hospital for detainees in Trenčin and in stable condition.
The incident occurred less than a month after former Police Corps President Milan Lučanský, who was also in custody being charged with corruption, committed suicide.
Former Deputy Justice Minister Monika Jankovská was detained along with 13 judges and other individuals on corruption-related charges in March of last year.
