A total of 1,461 cases of domestic violence were reported in 2020, according to the Slovak Police. This represents a year-on-year increase of almost 4 percent. "The issue of domestic violence requires effective solutions, and one of these is the practice of expulsion of a domestic abuse suspect from the dwelling for a certain period of time. The number of expulsions from a shared dwelling is increasing every year, and police patrols are increasingly using this practice," the police said. While in 2018 the number of such expulsions was 844, a year later it reached 892, with 1,045 being performed last year. In cases of domestic violence the perpetrator can face up to eight years in prison.
