Hearing of potential Special Prosecutors begins

The public hearings of the four candidates for the post of special prosecutor began on Monday morning and are expected to last two days. Each candidate should present the reasons for their candidacy, their work experience and publications. Subsequently, they will be questioned by the committee as well as other MPs and President Zuzana Čaputová or her representatives. The list of candidates includes prosecutors Peter Kysel, Vasil Špirko, Ján Šanta and lawyer Daniel Lipšic. The post of Special Prosecutor has been vacant since the former special prosecutor Dušan Kováčik resigned after he was detained and charged with corruption in November. The new Special Prosecutor should be elected by Parliament during the ongoing parliamentary session, although no exact date has been determined yet.
