Ex-deputy Justice Minister moved from custody to hospital

Former Deputy Justice Minister Monika Jankovská, who is in custody due to charges of corruption, was transported to hospital on Sunday after taking too many prescription drugs. Jankovská's life is reportedly not in danger and she is communicating. "During a routine check-up, guards briefly noticed in communication with the accused that she was not reacting in the usual way," Justice Ministry spokesman Peter Bubla described the events in the prison.

Denník N wrote that Jankovská had medicaments prescribed for anxiety and she told prison guards that she could not sleep at night and took a larger dose of the medicaments. Jankovská has been in custody for 10 months and has only recently tried to leave it. However, on January 22, her request was rejected and she did not lodge a complaint against the decision. On Monday, the spokesperson of the Prosecutor-General's office Jana Tökölyová said that the Banska Bystrica regional prosecutor's office would investigate Jankovská's medicament overdose.

This incident occurred less than a month after former Police Corps President Milan Lučanský, who was also in custody being charged of corruption, committed suicide.

In November, Jankovská confessed to the charges of corruption. Former Justice Ministry secretary Monika Jankovská was detained along with 13 judges and other individuals and indicted with corruption-related charges in March.
