In the global 2020 Corruption Perceptions Index created by the anticorruption watchdog Transparency International, Slovakia ended in 60th place. This is one place worse than in 2019 and up to six places worse than in 2016. According to Transparency International Slovakia, the deterioration in the index reflects the weak fight against corruption during the final year of Peter Pellegrini's government. Meanwhile, the work of the new government of Igor Matovič, which has set itself the goal of improving the ranking by 20 places, will be fully reflected in this year's index.
