Slovakia's Foreign Policy 2021 submitted for peer review

Slovakia's starting-point framework in terms of civilisation, values and geopolitics in 2021 will be EU and NATO membership, as there's no better alternative for Slovakia than a Euro-Atlantic orientation, reads a document called Slovakia's Foreign and European Policies 2021, which the Foreign Affairs Ministry submitted for inter-ministry comment proceedings on Monday. The document announces the country's intention to launch a strategic dialogue with the USA by stepping up cooperation with the new US administration. At the same time, Slovakia aims to deepen relations with France and Germany and to draw up a development concept for developing bilateral ties with the UK in the post-Brexit era.

As for Russia, the document reads that Slovakia's foreign policies concerning Moscow will remain based on the search for intersecting joint interests and an open dialogue, concerning even topics on which the two countries have diverging opinions. Last but not least, Slovakia also intends to continue developing close cooperation with its neighbours, be it within the Visegard Four format (V4: Slovakia, the Czech Republic, Poland and Hungary) or the Austerlitz format (S3: Slovakia, the Czech Republic and Austria).
