The awards ceremony for theBiela vrana or White crow awards for whistleblowers took place on Sunday after being postponed from November 17, 2020. The laureates for 2020 are Jolana and Štefan Náther, who have been working with Roma children for 25 years; the student initiative at the Faculty of Informatics and Information Technologies of the Slovak University of Technology in Bratislava, which mobilised students to defend democratic principles after the former dean of the faculty professor Mária Bieliková was fired; Andrej Belák, who helped excluded communities in handling the pandemic situation; and the chair of Žilina district court Jaroslav Macek, who received an award for his long term contribution. "I appreciate the fact that the White Crows are making visible those who are real heroes but are not visible, and who help society and the community without an audience," said Slovak President Zuzana Čaputová.
