The parliamentary defence and security committee launched a hearing of candidates for the post of Police Corps president at Bratislava Castle on Monday. Two people are running - the interim national police chief Peter Kovařík and the commander of the Police Corps' anti-terrorist unit Štefan Hamran. The bids of both have been okayed by a selection commission. The post of Police Corps president was vacated as of September 1st with the resignation of Milan Lučanský. He was arrested on accusations of corruption and remanded in custody in early December. On December 29, he was found hanging from a sweatshirt in a prison cell and declared dead in hospital one day later. An official investigation into his death by the police and a special parliamentary commission is still pending.
