With the current Covid-19 situation in Slovakia being serious, from January 6 the police decided to take stricter measures in overseeing the curfew throughout Slovakia. The interim president of the Police Corpse Peter Kovařík informed about these at Thursday's press conference. The police are also preparing for stringent measures in connection with the funeral of the former police chief Milan Lučanský, which will take place on Friday.
The police have taken stricter measures in the Nitra district already since Monday, January 4. They carry out inspections at the border of districts or in places, where people gather. Patrols are also, for example, at railway stations or on trains.
"I urge people to respect the rules," said Kovařík. According to him, people should be able to prove their exceptions from the curfew, for example by carrying an appropriate certificate from their employer or another credible document.
In connection with Friday's funeral of Milan Lučanský, which will take place in his hometown of Štrba, Peter Kovařík appeals for this ceremony not to be misused. "I am convinced that Lučanský himself would not agree that his memory should be honored in a way that is not in accordance with the law," stated Kovařík. Police expect hundreds of protesters, who are disputing the suicide of the former police chief, to come to Štrba on Friday.
