Special commission to investigate Lučanský suicide attempt

Minister of Justice Mária Kolíková will set up a broad commission to investigate the case of former police chief Milan Lučanský, currently in custody over corruption-related charges, who attempted to commit suicide on Tuesday and is now in a critical state. According to Kolíková, the commission should include representatives of the opposition, the president, the ombudswoman, the Slovak Bar Association and representatives of European organizations. Ombudswoman Mária Patakyová has said she welcomes this step.

Director General of the Prison and Judicial Guard Corps (ZVJS) Milan Ivan announced his resignation on Wednesday in connection with the Lučanský case. He said, however, that members of the Prison and Judicial Guard Corps performed their duties and did not make any mistake in this instance. When he was found, they gave him first aid.

Criminal prosecution in the Lučanský case began on Wednesday, general prosecutor Maroš Žilinka announced on the same day. There will also be an assessment of whether there has been a violation of regulations or rules by members of the Prison and Judicial Guard Corps during their service.
