Daniel Lipšic sole Special Prosecutor candidate for now

Lawyer and former Interior and Justice Minister Daniel Lipšic is the sole candidate so far for the Special Prosecutor post to be registered by the Parliament's Constitutional Committee, said its head Milan Vetrak (OLaNO). The deadline to file nominations for the post is January 8th. MPs should elect the chief of the Special Prosecutor's Office (USP) at their session starting on January 26th. Lipšic was nominated for the post by the dean of Comenius University's Law Faculty, Eduard Burda. The candidates will have to undergo hearings before the Parliament's Constitutional Committee. The Special Prosecutor is elected and can be fired by Parliament. His term in office is seven years. A new Special Prosecutor needs to be elected after Dusan Kovačik, who is facing prosecution for organized crime, resigned from the post.
