US Embassy gives awards to three Slovaks

The US Embassy to Slovakia on Thursday gave awards to Eva Mosnaková, Monika Todová and Jaroslav Macek for their outstanding contributions to the promotion of human rights and transparency on the occasion of International Human Rights Day. "Support for universal shared values such as human rights and the rule of law are one of the key priorities of the US Government," stated US Ambassador Bridget Brink. She added that the United States and Slovakia will remain strong partners in this effort, and, although no country is perfect in this regard, including the United States, they will do their utmost to help each other.

Eva Mosnaková, 90, a Holocaust survivor, received the award of 'Human Rights Protector' for sharing her life story and for the help she has provided in building a more tolerant and inclusive future.

Investigative journalist Monika Todová was given the 'Woman of Courage' award for her persistent efforts to reveal corruption among the top echelons and her defence of the freedom of the press.

Zilina district court chair Jaroslav Macek received the 'Jan Kuciak Award for Transparency' for promoting transparency in state procurement processes and helping to hold state representatives accountable for their misdeeds.
