New security and defence strategy drafts reflect a deteriorating security environment. In addition to traditional threats, they are responding to new phenomena, such as climate change, the pandemic and hybrid threats, Foreign Affairs Minister Ivan Korcok and Defence Minister Jaroslav Nad told a news conference on Tuesday.
Korcok confirmed that the documents also received support from the Coalition council. When the ongoing inter-ministerial comment procedure is completed, the Government should discuss them for a week before they are presented in Parliament. The defence strategy was created alongside the security one. The defence minister emphasised that although there is no meaningful alternative to the North Atlantic Alliance, Slovakia is still responsible for its own defence.
The Government is set to deal with the strategies at its session next week. The aim is for the documents to win the support of Parliament as well, stated Korcok.
