Special prosecutor Dušan Kováčik claims that no high-level official at the Slovak Environment Ministry enriched himself on the underpriced sale of Slovakia’s CO2 emission allowances to the garage-based company Interblue Group.
He thus responded to a letter which his office received from the watchdog non-governmental organisation Fair-Play Alliance. At the beginning of April, the NGO released a document of the Swiss prosecuting authority, which describes a strange transfer of 3.8 million U.S. dollars from a company registered in Cyprus into the account of an influential official at the Slovak Environment Ministry. It does not name the person; it only states his alleged high position in the public administration. According to the Swiss body, the money was paid into Credit Suisse on August 19, 2009, at a time when the current ruling party SMER took away the Environment Ministry from its then coalition partner, the Slovak National Party over the deal with emissions. In 2011 the Swiss bank informed the local prosecuting authority that the same person was linked to the accounts of other companies registered in Cyprus and Belize.
