Cabinet discusses children going back to school

The chances of pupils going to school next week are still open, Vice-premier and Investment, Regional Development and Informatisation Minister Veronika Remisova (For the People) told TASR on Thursday. She added that all the coalition partners are interested in this. Although Prime Minister Igor Matovic (OLaNO) did not take part in the coalition council, according to Remisova, OLaNO representatives also declared that it was in their interest to send pupils back to school. Meanwhile, Economy Minister and Vice-premier Richard Sulik (Freedom and Solidarity/SaS) stated that they did not discuss the reopening of schools at the coalition council. Education Minister Branislav Groehling (SaS) commented that if schools were to reopen, the Education Ministry would have to change its decision to suspend teaching. In this matter, however, they will follow the recommendations of Slovakia's Chief Hygienist Jan Mikas. The head of the Education Ministry wants to present a plan for how schools could work from January 2021. However, he stressed that children need to be sent back to schools.
