Slovak Foreign Affairs Minister Ivan Korčok expressed on Tuesday his conviction that a strong North Atlantic Alliance, one that is ready for the challenges of the next ten years, is a vital interest for Slovakia. Korčok further stated that Russia is a security challenge both for NATO, and for Slovakia as one of its member countries. The Slovak minister made the statements on the first day of a two-day meeting of foreign ministers of NATO member countries, which is being held as a video conference.
The ministers also discussed the future shape of the NATO training mission in Afghanistan, which is to be decided by NATO defence ministers in February 2021 after considering the current situation. There are currently 18 Slovak soldiers in the so-called Resolute Support Mission (RSM).
