Slovakia's air force will engage in cooperation with Hungary, with a bilateral treaty to that effect being signed by Defence Minister Jaroslav Nad (OLaNO) and his Hungarian counterpart Tibor Benko on Monday, announced Defence Ministry spokesperson Martina Koval Kakascikova on the same day.
"The agreement will enable the Slovak Air Force to fly into Hungarian air space to intercept an airborne intruder and vice versa," stated Nad. He added that a long-term goal is to include all Visegrad Four (V4: Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland, Slovakia) countries in a project of collective air space defence.
Aside from the V4 format, the ministers also discussed the existing cooperation within NATO and the EU, touching on PESCO projects and Slovakia's intent to firm up the collaboration in the form of a potential contribution to NATO's Multinational Division Central (HQ MND-C), added the spokesperson.
