Former head of Slovak police Tibor Gašpar, as well as other former senior police officers including top commanders in the National Anti-Crime Agency (NAKA) who were detained earlier this month - under charges of founding, masterminding and supporting an organised criminal group, corruption, and misuse of a public official's powers - will be remanded in custody, the Supreme Court decided on Monday. The court thereby rejected a complaint filed by the accused against the decision of a lower court. Tibor Gašpar served as the national police chief for six years under Prime Minister Robert Fico. Both eventually resigned in the months following the murder of investigative journalist Ján Kuciak in 2018, which provoked mass protests throughout the country.
