Zoroslav K. remain in Custody

Wealthy businessman Zoroslav K., former Supreme Court vice-chair Jarmila U. and former Bratislava III District Court vice-chairman David L. will remain in custody, as the Supreme Court on Thursday dropped their appeal against a decision of the Specialised Criminal Court. "Based on an appeal by the prosecutor in charge, the senate also extended the reasons for custody concerning the charged Zoroslav K. and David L. by preventive custody," said Supreme Court spokesperson Alexandra Vazanova. The three figures were arrested by the National Crime Agency (NAKA) on October 28 as part of an operation codenamed 'Gale'. As two of them were judges, consent from the Constitutional Court was also needed to remand them in custody. It was given as early as the next day following the arrest. All three are charged with bribery and interference with the independence of courts.
