A recent Globsec analysis has shown that foreign websites spreading disinformation and conspiracy theories have a significant impact on Slovak Facebook users, Globsec's communication and marketing team announced on Wednesday.
The research revealed that pro-Russian actors have gained notable influence on Slovak Facebook pages. As an example, Globsec mentioned Russian pro-government news outlet life.ru, whose content is often liked by the Syrian militaristic channel Panteon. "The contents of this website are processed, for example, by a Slovak Facebook page called Spravodajska Alternativa (News Alternative), which thus contributes to promoting these contents in the Slovak information space," explained Globsec.
At the same time, the influence of disinformation originating from American conspiracy websites has also grown. "The potential of such material to manipulate the opinion of the Slovak public has become evident during the pandemic, especially if the content is professionally dubbed into Slovak," stated Globsec analyst Miroslava Sawiris.
