Slovakia posted a trade-balance surplus of €707.9 million in September 2020, which is the second highest figure to be reported in ten years following the record surplus seen in June, according to preliminary data published by the Statistics Office on Monday. Total exports grew by 3.4% y-o-y to €7.3 billion in September, while total imports dropped by 4.9% to €6.5 billion. The September trade-balance surplus was twice as high as in August and five times as high as in September 2019. This can mainly be ascribed to increased car exports in September.
Meanwhile, Slovakia posted a trade balance surplus of €1.5 billion in the first nine months of 2020, which was €917.4 million higher than in the same period of last year. The country's exports in January-September totalled €53.3 billion, down by 10.2 percent y-o-y. Imports over the same period amounted to €51.8 billion, down by 11.9 percent y-o-y.
