Zoologists count fewer chamois in the Tatras

The results of this year's autumn chamois inventory in the High Tatras were not too pleasing. The count, which took place on both sides of the High Tatra Mountains on Thursday, October 22, registered less than 1,000 chamois. According to Martina Petránová from the State Forests of the High Tatras National Park, while on the Slovak side of the Tatras they registered 653 chamois, there were 330 individuals on the Polish side. The last time a number under 1,000 chamois was recorded in the Tatra National Park was in the autumn of 2011. According to zoologists the number, however, does not have to be definite, as the count was done on a sunny day and the chamois could have been hiding in the shade.
