Slovaks buy groceries online more often

The average Slovak household currently spends about €24 for a purchase in a grocery store, representing a decline of €5 compared to the first lockdown in March this year, said economic analyst at FinGO.sk Lenka Buchláková. She explained that the behaviour of Slovaks in shops has changed. Many have switched to online shopping, which provides them with more security, as there is a greater risk of infection in stores. Many items, such as electronics, are often cheaper bought online. A modern phenomenon is the purchase of food online, which Slovaks have not been able to imagine so far, according to various surveys. The corona crisis meant that they no longer needed to grab or smell the goods. Nowadays, shopping safety is more important for Slovaks.

Buchláková added that according to the Statistical Office of the Slovak Republic, food prices decreased by 0.5% in September. This was mainly due to lower prices of fruit by 1.6%, bread and cereals by 1.5%, vegetables (including potatoes) by 0.7%, milk, cheese and eggs by 0.5%, oils and fats by 0.3%.
