Sheep and goat breeders appalled by protecting wolves

The Sheep and Goat Breeders Association on Thursday stated that it is appalled by an announcement made by Environment Minister Jan Budaj (OLaNO), who said on Wednesday that his ministry is preparing a decree that will put wolves on the list of strictly protected species. Association head Slavomir Relovsky is of the opinion that Minister has opted to protect wolves permanently, eliminating the possibility of reducing the population in locations where it is necessary instead of looking for rational solutions. Budaj's announcement came in reaction to the Agriculture Ministry's recently approved quota, which allows hunters to shoot 50 wolves between November 1 and January 15 unless the limit is reached before then. Agriculture Minister Jan Micovsky (OLaNO) stated that he disagrees with several of Budaj's opinions. Micovsky signed the petition in support of decreasing the number of shot wolves to 0 in September.
