The 540 employees of the U.S. company Delphi, an automotive supplier, which had decided to close its factory one and a half years ago in Senica, western Slovakia has seen some light of hope.
Few people believed that the investor would stay here at all, after it appeared determined to move to Romania in search of cheaper labour. The situation has changed though and one of the most complicated investor stories is preliminary offering a better scenario for Slovakia: the plant in Senica will wind up production of cable harnesses, but it will expand the manufacture of air conditioning systems. Spokesperson for the company Monika Babicz confirmed this information for the Hospodárske Noviny business daily. The company guarantees work for its employees until the project’s completion in 7 to 10 years time.
