The National Crime Agency has detained Special Prosecutor Dušan Kováčik, Denník N daily reported on Thursday morning, adding that the circumstances behind the move are unknown. He was subsequently charged. Police Corps Presidium spokesman Michal Slivka stated that he could not provide any information given the ongoing procedures. According to Denník N, the agency has also detained a senior police officer from a special unit. Allegedly, both were charged in connection with enabling the activities of Bratislava-based criminal gang Takáčovci. In reaction to the detention of special prosecutor Kováčik, the Justice Minister Mária Kolíková stated that it only deepens the existing distrust in the prosecutor's office if the person at its head is prosecuted, while he himself had the fundamental competence to prosecute those who committed crimes.
