A disciplinary commission of the Prosecutor-General's Office on Monday acquitted former prosecutor-general Dobroslav Trnka of disciplinary charges, concerning an interview he gave in October 2019 to private television channel Markiza regarding the recording of a conversation with controversial entrepreneur Marian Kočner. Last year the Dennik N daily published excerpts of the recording of an alleged conversation between controversial businessman Marián Kočner and former prosecutor general Dobroslav Trnka. They allegedly discussed blackmailing Jaroslav Haščák, head of the Penta financial group, and how Haščák and Kočner bribed MPs to vote for Trnka so that he could be re-elected as Prosecutor General. However, Trnka fell one short vote of being elected. According to the disciplinary commission, Trnka in his interview never made any statement that would justify disciplinary proceedings against him.
At the same time, the disciplinary commission found Trnka guilty of violating the rules of prosecutor ethics, for providing an interview to the same channel on the releasing of entrepreneur Jozef Majesky from custody in 2004. The commission decided to penalise Trnka by reducing his salary by 15 percent for three months. Deputy Prosecutor-General Jozef Szabo, who's the claimant in the case, filed an appeal against the commission's decision immediately after it was produced. It'll be dealt with by the disciplinary appeal senate of the PG's Office.
